Call Center Jobs... No thanks to Thom Hart

The announcement of 500 new jobs and the development of a new call center is good for our economy. Hopefully the Quad City Times and local media won’t allow Thom Hart to stand up front and take credit. The hard work is due to City Hall staff and a hustling Mel Foster Commercial Real Estate Agent.

It’s continued good news for developer Steve Schalk, who happens to own the land that has been selected. For those that keep track of this stuff, Mr. Schalk was pleased to have some more of his ground selected by PEDCOR earlier this month.

Maybe we should hire Steve Schalk to replace Thom Hart, so he can develop all of his land, bring jobs to the community and increase population.... Yah, I didn't think so.

Congrats to all those that actually worked to make this a reality.

George

City Hall tried hard to get them Downtown, but there are no suitable sites. Companies like this will not be lured Downtown until there is a vibrant residential community, good places to eat and drink, etc.

Still, this is great news. Kudos to Liz, Clayton, Craig and the rest of the City who worked like hell for this to happen.

Is this the same plan that will pay only 9 bucks and hour? Plus are we giving tax breaks on this new construction project that Schalk will be getting richer off of?

Also, which sites downtown were looked at? How about the Sears building? Oh, yes, that is in the Goldcoast and we want to save those properties for more low income housing and poverty services. God forbid we look to a for propfit vendor for that area. If we do them the poor people will move out North and we wouldn't want that now would we?

Details details. Who needs them, we live in Davenport.. Clayton, you need to be fired.

Actually, I have been told good ole' Mr. Schalk sold this parcel very cheap to get the deal done. A smart developer knows 500 jobs makes the ground around it a hell of a lot more expensive.

So the land developer might get a few bucks, on this deal. But I think he has had this ground for over ten years. No daddy big bucks there, but a deal is a deal.

And who in the hell would sneeze at 500 jobs starting at $9.50 an hour. Yah, maybe cheap on benefits. But could they send these jobs to India. Maybe...

Let's all embrace this oppurtunity. And lets create a job fair, with local Realtors and the city creating incentives to live/rent SOLO.

If the city invest 1/10th of the TIF money for this, it's money well served.

Now Colonel - we need to support the development of low income housing around thelocation of this new business because boy will we need it.

Progress would be more diversity in economics in this town. Stop the low income stuff SOLO and promote it NOLO. Now we are talking.

Steve's open account at a local pub for the P & Z members to drink and eat seems to pay off. Donna don't get so drunk that you fall out of your chair again. Steve won't like that.

Steve has made so much money from our Davenport Council and his association with Rob Fick that he does not need to go to court for his clients very often. What a way to be a lawyer.
