Gaming Dilemma’s

Rumors have been flying since Isle of Capri’s President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Hinkley “stepped down” last week. A few weeks prior, the Isle announced plans to halt on-going development in Davenport and hinted the Bettendorf project would be scaled down. Iowa Gaming Authorities have also expressed frustration at the lack of progress made in the Isle’s Waterloo project.

First, Quad Citians should know that Tim Hinkley never liked the Quad Cities. Old man Goldstein is the only reason the Isle continues to have a presence in this area. He saw the greed of the Iowa Legislature coming with lotto “slot machines” and talk of expanding gaming. Iowa was and still is a bad investment.

I am told the board pushed Hinkley out, and rumors have it the company is seeking merger with another entity. I am also told the Rock Island project continues to have problems, mainly from a financial feasibility standpoint.

Not sure if any Isle employees out there have heard anything else. I am interested in any comments..

Just think, we almost sacrificed our waterfront for this insecure company. Shame on us.

I definitely think RDA should be exploring their options for other companies to operate their casino license.

Alderman Meyer has been preaching for years that we need to watch the IOC closely. Our other councilmen really need to listen to every word that Keith says. He does his homework, and speaks with intelligence.

What is it that Keith said re IOC that the council needs to revisit? He flyspecs everything, and has no answers, just questions.

The decisions that were made at that time were the correct decisions.

He has all along questioned the dependance our city has on the boats. He questioned the contract of late and he has questioned the allocation of RDA money process and if it is fair or not. He questioned how the money is spent and he questioned why people who sit on the board are such good friends with Mary ellen and why then do they get appointed if they are leaders of the same organizations that get the money.

Keith is the only on up there that seems to be on target regarding anything in this town. It is too bad that the others are so enmeshed and bought that they can't act in the best interest of the citizens and fight for us.

If the boat pulls out, who will be stuck with the Hotel owned by the IOC that is closed since the fire?

3 companies have offered to renovate the Blackhawk, so I don't think we're going to be "stuck with it." Especially when you consider that we can sell it for $2 and double our money.

Keith (and Kathleen McC) are the biggest nitpicking naysayers in the region. They never have any solutions to suggest, only complaints and gripes. It's amazing anything ever gets done or anyone new would want to bring their jobs/business here, with those two ready to pounce.

I agree! Keith could live in Nirvana and still complain.

Nirvana is just outside of Clinton, and there is plenty to complain about there. The ADM stench can be smelled for miles.

I Agree ! 9:49 should rush to Walgreens and pick up an ointment for her Nirvana Rash. That rash is caused from playing with her Plastic Pink Flamingo's.

Saw a bunch of surveyors out and about near Wacky Waters this morning - One has to wonder if they were sizing up the location for the new casino location.

At January 17, 2007 4:57 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You can bet Wacky Waters is glad someone is going to buy their business. Davenport is operating the swimming pools at a loss, since Davenport opened the pools, attendance at Wacky Waters has been down. The pools loose money, and take the kids away from a tax paying business.

At January 18, 2007 2:20 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wacky Waters will be something very big and very needed for the fire departments in Eastern Iowa!

At January 18, 2007 6:37 AM, Blogger QuadCityImages said...

Now people area against city pools?

The city provides parks at a loss also, which must be why there are no private park operators in Davenport. Maybe we should sell off all that pesky green space and recreational land.

Some of you must never leave your house the way you dislike any quality-of-life amenity.

Donna Bushek would like it if we bought the greenspace for APARTMENTS> NO MORE GREEN! NO MORE GREEN! SPACE THAT IS - THE MONEY IS GOOD.

You are forgetting the role of government QCI. Tax dollars should be used for things that the private sector can't do, or doesn't care to do. In the swimming pool example, they are competing with a business that must make a profit to survive. The least Parks and Wrecks could do is raise the price to the same price of wacky waters. In Your example of parks, I've never heard of a grassy type park being owned other than by government. And that is a perfect thing for them to get into. Finially, taxpayers are about to subsidize the Freighthouse for an indoor Farmers Market. The private businessman who opened the Kimberly Road farmers market (just west of wally-world) should be screaming like hell that the city is going to subsidize a competitor. If nothing else, it would only be fair for the city to give him the Exact Same handout that the downtown farmers market is about to receive. {actually, they already are getting a big break on the outdoor part of the market.}

At January 18, 2007 3:10 PM, Blogger QuadCityImages said...

Its not going to be an indoor farmer's market. Read the Freight House report.

As far as the pools, I think providing them goes right along with providing parks and baseball diamonds. If our only choices are Wacky Waters or some other expensive pool, ad we just saying that poor people don't have the right to swim? Davenport has been offering public swimming for decades, and I think its a good service.

At January 18, 2007 3:59 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

During the last cycle, council discussed leasing the Freight House to a guy from Bettendorf that wanted to move a Comedy Night spot to Davenport. He didn't need all the space, so the request was to only lease the amount of space that he needed, and the city be on the hook for the other space. Consideration was given to subleasing to the farmers market. On the pool topic, what would be the matter with the poor kids parents going out and getting a job to pay to use the pool? There is no moral or constitutional right to use something just because you are poor and on welfare. Do you think QCI, that poor people have the right to eat cheap at Centro? No. They go eat at taco bell or mcdonalds; something they can afford. Same with the pools. If they care to use it, they need to pay their fair share.

Conservative Demo here:
Takes a whacko to believe cities shouldn't own public pools as part of their municipal parks systems. City pools date back probably a full century. Well into the seventies Davenport had a long-lived pool right downtown in the block bounded by Main, River Dr, the DRI&NW RR, and Harrison.

Hi, seeing as you accept anonymous blogging I thought I would send you this info about online gambling from a guy at work. His blog features gambling site and he has made a fortune from online gambling.

The Online Casino Startup Bonus

When choosing a trustworthy online casino there are many factors you need to consider. Just because one of the great number of online casinos existent today has impressive graphics, games and offers a wide diversity of bonuses, it doesnt mean its a fair and licensed one. Of course, such cases are rare, and, since today there are hundreds of reputable virtual casinos one can choose from, the most important criteria when deciding which one to play at is what they offer.

The first bonus you can get when you first open an account at a casino is the sign up bonus most casinos offer, an encouraging bonus of at least $25, but it may often be higher than $500. Some casinos even match your first deposit, meaning they double it, for free.

Many casinos also offer hundreds of dollars worth bonuses for new players and, if you're the one who brings other friends to the casino, things are even better than that. Most casinos offer a refer a friend bonus and, the more friends you have, the more fortunate you will get. For each friend you refer to the casino, you will get up to $1000, for each friend that they refer, you'll earn up to $300 and, furthermore, for each person that your friend's friends refer, you will earn up to $100. Once you are confident that particular casino is a reliable one, bring as many of your friends as you can to the casino and you'll have all the reasons to enjoy their games. The only thing you need to pay attention to afterwards is to handle the money wisely and not risk it all in a single bet, however confident you may be.

And most casinos give you an alternative to this. They offer you the chance to practice for free at first, and they also give you money to do that, so, it's practically free and you have nothing to lose. When you find the right casino you'll know it from the first time you play there. From then on, they will remind you how important you are to them by giving you special bonuses every month. These bonuses are somewhere around $100 and even higher and they reward you for being a loyal customer. These casinos also offer the so called comp points that accumulate throughout the course of the games you play and at certain points they turn into real money and, depending how long you have been playing at that casino, you may win lots of money.

The most important bonuses casinos offer are the jackpots and prizes you can win at their games. Casinos reward players with millions of dollars each day for their gaming skills. Tournaments and regular casino games are most profitable for gamblers. Only one progressive jackpot, for one single game of slots, for instance, can be of over $ 2 million. And it's only a matter of seconds and a bit of luck to win it.

Most casinos don't need a special occasion to give bonuses. They offer bonuses for the players third and fourth deposits, for being loyal to the casino, or just for being at a table at a certain time. So, it’s only a matter of finding the right casino and from there on, bonuses will keep coming to you. The only problem is that if you don't have a proper money management you won't treasure what you win, it will go away as easily as it came. We may all want those bonuses, but do we know what to do with them and how much of it we should risk in our next bet?

A guy at work recommends the following Casino Gaming Sites, (the trick is to sign up to each and get your startup bonuses) once you have played each one for a while you will get to know which one suits your style of play and which is therefore the most profitable one for you.

as follows:
